 = Pi

Pi is the ratio between the circumference of a circle and its diameter, and is a constant.

Pythagoras is credited with the discovery that any triangle that has one 90 degree right angle has special properties, specifically the length of the longest side squared (multiplied by itself) is exactly equal to the length of the next longest side squared plus the length of the shortest side squared.

If these sides are of length 3 inches, 4 inches, and 5 inches, we can see that ( 5x5 ) = ( ( 4x4 ) + (3x3) ) and so all we need to know is any two sides of a right angle triangle to be able to calculate the third side.

The longest side of a triangle is also known as the hypotenuse.

If you have access to sine and cosine tables, or a calculator with these functions, you do not even need two sides, but one side and the angles next to it will do.

There are _always_ 180 degrees in the angles inside a triangle.
